The Experience's first trip to Oklahoma brought the group to University of Oklahoma's Field House in Norman for two concerts on this evening.

Tension on the University campus was at fever pitch, stoked by the tragic killing of four Kent State students just days before. Jimi performance at the school was eagerly anticipated and both performances were sold out.

Fortunately, the second of the group's two performances that evening was recorded by Lee Agnew, an audience member who carried in a portable tape recorder. Following an enthusiastic opening set by the Fort Worth rock ensemble Bloodrock, Jimi took the stage. The evening began inauspiciously as Jimi was hampered by equipment problems during "Fire". Mitch Mitchell filled in with a lengthy drum solo while Jimi and the road crew attempted to rectify the situation. Jimi quickly rebounded and a vibrant "Spanish Castle Magic" set the tone for the balance of the evening. "Machine Gun" followed next and it surely must rank among his finest ever interpretations of the song. No doubt impacted by the tragedy of the Kent State killings, Jimi opened the song with a haunting introduction"Lover Man," "Foxey Lady," "Hear My Train A Comin'," "Message To Love," "Red House," "Star Spangled Banner," "Purple Haze," and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)."
